The goal
SpectralVR is a startup in the United States. It wanted a marketplace on the web for virtual reality content, so that the people making it and the people buying it meet in one place. The product is sold as a service rather than installed, so the whole of it - browsing, listings, checkout - had to work in the browser.
How it works
The site is a .NET application: ASP.NET MVC 5 and C# on the server, JavaScript and jQuery on the page. It runs on AWS, with DynamoDB holding the data and the work split between Lambda functions and EC2 instances.
